Jimmy Dimora Blossoms, Flourishes, & Helps His State to Sow Seeds of Success
by: vicque fassinger
From the seeds sown during his early academic years in Bedford Schools and then as a young man interested in his community of Bedford Heights, Jimmy Dimora has blossomed into a beautiful perennial that grows stronger and more luminous each year. Dimora’s professional life is the antithesis of a dream deferred; it is the epitome of an incandescent idea brought to fruition by setting and accomplishing goals, by making good choices, and by treating all that come upon his life’s path with respect.
After serving as a Bedford Heights city employee for six years and then a Council-at-Large for four years, Jimmy Dimora was elected Mayor of his town at the age of 26. Welcomed like an unexpected cool breeze on a hot summer day, Dimora ran unopposed the following four elections; he served from 1982 through 1998. Nearly two decades after he was first elected, after creating a community center and implementing countless programs for seniors and other community members without raising property taxes or city income taxes, Dimora was sworn in as Cuyahoga County Commissioner in 1999. This new role catapulted him from an energetic, caring, involved, and down-to-earth town mayor into an energetic, caring, involved, and down-to-earth state leader.
