From College Student to Chief Iridology Consultant to Asian Bride to American Citizen to American Physical Therapist!
As a professional writer, life coach, and career consultant for nearly three decades now, I have met countless clients from all walks of life – each with their own wonderfully unique story, pocketful of experiences, and list of goals and dreams to bring to fruition.
One of my clients is a beautiful girl from Asia.
While in the Phillipines she attended the Southeast Asia College and earned her baccalaureate in Physical Therapy. In addition to her Bachelor’s degree, she actively participated in numerous seminars, workshops, and conferences on a variety of topics, including: “Basic & Advanced Iridology,” “Advanced Sclerology,” “Updates on Hydrotherapy,” and “Comprehensive Clinical Management,” among others.
Upon earning her degree, she secured the role of Chief Iridology Consultant at a leading alternative healthcare wellness center specialzing in the effective practice of analyzing and evaluating a patient’s iris to determine his/her health status! What a cool job! She loved her professional position because she was able to utilize not only her fomal studies in the field and her commitment to provide nothing less than superior client service, but also her thoroughness and acumen in analyzing and evaluating patients and her ability to make sound and appropriate suggestions to improve the overall well-being of others.
The wellness center, offering a variety of holistic, traditional, and alternative health practices, modalities, and therapies – was a perfect fit for her and her own personal philosophies and commitment to living a healthy lifestyle.
Young. Beautiful. Articulate. Educated. And passionate about her career -she had little time or energy left to even think about starting a family, let alone finding a great guy who would appreciate and respect her devotion to both her career and her healthy lifestyle.
Enter a phenomenal international dating service.
Probably like most everyone else, my client was, at first, a bit reluctant and hesitant to register with a formal dating service – but while she certainly had no trouble attracting men through her charm, wit, kindness, and appearance, she found little time to spend quality time with each fellow who asked her out. So, instead of taking the time and energy to date someone four times to then find out they weren’t so compatible after all, she made the decision to search for a good man who had the same life goals and values that she had – so she researched several companies and joined an international dating service focused on clients who were seeking serious relationships vs. simply casual dating. (By the way, as a business owner with thousands of clients, I have many clients and friends who have happily “met their match” by utilizing such sites.)
Within just a few months on the site, my client met a great guy online from Ohio. Within the 14 months, she relocated to America, got married to her new Ohio love, and began her search for a job in her new hometown.
Enter Blue Flamingo Productions.
I met and interviewed this wonderful individual - and enjoyed her and her conversation straightaway. She was personable, pleasant, and truly happy to be in America, newly-married, and looking to transfer her academic and professional skills to an employer in the United States.
I created a beautiful split brochure style resume for her - including a cover letter and a matching reference sheet. In addition, she hired me also to serve as her "headhunter" to help her find available positions in the market. While she was offered several positions, she accepted an exciting role as a Physical Therapist at a healthcare facility where she strove to help restore the function, improve the mobility, and prevent or limit physical disabilities of pediatric patients ranging in age from 3 to 12 and afflicted with Cerebral Palsy!
When she came back in to our writing firm to have her resume updated with this new American position, she brought her gorgeous, polite, and charming American husband with her so that I could craft his resume for him too! What's his field? He works as a design engineer for an international orthopedic supplies company!
Now, what would have been the chances of these two bumping into each other at some coffee shop in the Phillipines?
While some folks tend to be more of a fatalist than an existentialist - believeing that whatever is meant to happen in life will just happen vs. trying to control everything through deliberate choices. Both are extremes. I tend to be in the middle somewhere. I believe that, if we do the footwork, do our homework, and make the most and the best of every opportunity and situation - then everything else will fall into place naturally!
So, if you are looking for a soulmate, you can either continue lounging like lizard on your couch hoping perhaps he or she will be the next pizza delivery person or perhaps the UPS driver; or, you can explore other options - join an international dating site like my client did and make the commitment to get to know people from some place a little farther away from your comfort zone than the corner of your street. (Remember, results are different for each of us!)
And, if you are looking for a new job, you can either hope someone will happen upon your blurb posted on the internet somewhere, or you can make the commitment to yourself to have an amazing, professional resume created for you.
Just look at my client. She did both.
