How to earn money when you are not employed #3
Similiar to ideas #1 and #2 where you are helping people right in your own neighbord, idea #3 is for those in the snowbelt (or, your can simply replace “snowblower” with “grasscutter” if your hometown doesn’t see snowflakes !)
As the days become colder and weathermen start talking about when the first day of snow will be in your town, a great way to be of service to others while earning money for yourself is setting up a snowplowing service. If you can afford to buy a snowblower at your local store, it would be a great investment for this idea since you don’t want to spend the winter actually using a s-h-o-v-e-l to move the snow!
While going door-to-door in the middle of a blizzard is certainly a way to pick up new customers, a better bet would be to plan ahead. Get flyers made with your phone number and fees and start distributing them now. If you can afford it, have a magnet business card made so that your new and potential clients can keep your name and number on their frig. You can order pretty much any quantity of business cards or postcards through Overnight Prints and have it delivered straightaway to your front door. Get organized and get your advertising tools ready so you can differentiate yourself from the neighbor teen walkin’ the block with a shovel slung over his shoulder.
If you establish a client base ahead of time you can plan your day/evening when the snow comes - knowing you have 15+ driveways, pathways, and sidewalks to plow every time it snows. If you keep your fees affordable and plow more than just the driveway, you will get more clients than the local neighborhood high schooler! And, with a new snowblower, it will take you no time at all to do one's property.
